Our Mission and History
Our Mission
To promote a community of healthy individuals and families by providing a resource center for the prevention of and recovery from substance abuse, other addictions, and related problems.
Our Goals
Promote the development of prevention and/or recovery activities and services for the entire community, increase community awareness of alcohol and other drug related issues, facilitate on-going support for those recovering from alcohol and other drug related problems.
Our History
North county connection (NCC) opened on August 23rd, 1989. In its first nine years, NCC operated in partnership with San Luis Obispo county Drug & Alcohol Services through colocation and provision of up to 1.5 staff by DAS. Due to funding cuts by the county, North county Connections partnership with San Luis Obispo County Drug & Alcohol services was dissolved.
As a result, NCC relocated to this current location in January 1998. By July of the same year, the county funded staff was completely eliminated. At this time, north County connection went from being a county funded organization to a non-profit organization. volunteers staffed the center during the first two years at NCC’s new location.
Through grants, contracts, and donations, North County Connections board has continued the operations and obtained paid staffing. Even with such funds, the basic operations of the center continue to be an ongoing struggle.
Currently, our organization provides a welcoming and safe environment to help reduce the stigma, fear, shame, and isolation that deter many people from seeking recover. We welcome all those who are struggling with addiction and are seeking to find help.
